Writing a personal statement is hard. Where does one start? Here are some questions you should consider asking yourself when you begin to draft a personal statement:
After you've considered these questions try to answer them when writing your personal statement. Its important to highlight what makes you unique and why you believe that you're a qualified candidate for their program.
Next, its important for people you trust to look over your statement so that you can receive crucial feedback. This is a great way to prevent any errors/mistakes from entering your application. We here at Curatio Club would love to help you with this process. Email your personal statement in a Microsoft Document to us ([email protected]) and we can proofread your statement either for grammar, content, theme or anything else you might be concerned about. Once you send your statement to us we will: have officers read over it, provide suggestions and email you a report within the week that you sent it to us.
Some advice to consider when drafting your personal statement:
This is all about YOU. If someone has been influential in your life then mention it, but don't make it about them.
Try to avoid quotes.
Avoid the phrase "I want to go into (Medicine, Physical Therapy, etc.) because I love helping people/science/the human body." That doesn't necessarily mean that you can't talk about your reasons for wanting to go into that career, but avoid saying anything too cliché.
Don't write about anything that you're not comfortable sharing with people who don't exclusively know you. It can lead to problems during the interview process in regards to becoming too emotional.
- Who inspired me and why?
- What challenges have I overcome?
- What experiences have been the most influential to me and why?
- How did I become interested in (Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, etc.)?
- Why (Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, etc.)?
