Prerequisites are suggested courses that most pharmacy schools require students to take before applying. While this list is pretty standard, they sometimes vary among schools.

What can I do to make my self competitive for Pharmacy school?
- Complete your undergrad degree. While you are not required to get you bachelors, having a degree will definitely make you more competitive.
- Get a high science GPA and an overall GPA above a 3.3
- Get involved in college as well as community related volunteering opportunities.
- Get some pharmacy experience. From a pharmacy technician to a desk clerk, experience in the pharmacy allows you to first hand see what it would be like to be a pharmacist.
- Start an PCAT study group with friends/colleagues
- Spend a large amount of studying and preparing for the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT).
- Learn to love chemistry and biology because you will see a lot of it.
- Go one step further and do research with a chemistry, or biology professor.
- Get close and form networks with these professors so that when you need it you can get an amazing letter of recommendation. The closer to you ate to the professor, the easier it is for them to write positive things about you.
- Show that you can balance yourself and multiple priorities. Pharm school is not going to be easy, it will be rigorous and taxing and you will have to balance your life with school work, volunteering and leadership positions. Pharmacy schools like students who display this ability even before they enter pharmacy school.

The PCAT is a standardized test used by pharmacy schools to assess the skills and abilities of applicants in specific subjects.
The PCAT is a standardized test used by pharmacy schools to assess the skills and abilities of applicants in specific subjects.
The PCAT is divided in to six sub-tests; Biology, Chemistry, Reading Comprehension,
Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability and writing. Overall the test contains 232 questions and one writing passage and takes about 4 hours to complete.
The PCAT website is the official testing page and features all necessary testing information. About 5 weeks after taking the test, scores are released and are automatically sent to the Pharmacy College Application
Service (PharmCAS). Composite scaled scores are the student's totals from all the subtests and range from 200–600. Percentile ranks is not an average but is determined by the normal group composite scores and range from 1–99.

How do I apply to Texas pharmacy schools?
All applications to Texas pharmacy schools must be done through the online through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PHARMCAS)
- Carefully read the PharmCAS instructions
- Create a PharmCAS account and obtain your ID number
- Send your PCAT scores to the PharmCAT application
- Send online references to teachers/employers
- Review the application for accuracy and spelling errors.
- Send transcripts to the PharmCAS
- Complete the PharmCAS application and submit
